The goal of almost all websites is to become popular, build a following, and have regular visitors for the content being provided. There are a number of ways of generating traffic - from paying for it through pay per click campaigns to using social media (twitter, Facebook, etc), and of course the use of articles.
For the longest term benefit to your site, you want to create a process of making your website popular with link building strategies. Link building is the idea of actively seeking out links to your site. It could be by asking for links, by guest posting, by commenting on blogs, by writing articles, or - my favorite method - is by creating link bait content.
The fastest ways to build links to your site is to create some sort of link-bait article. Link bait is an article or page on your site that encourages others to link you. To create good link bait - think about what it is that you like to reference? It could be a code snippet that helps solve a problem for people. It could be a website plug-in or script that includes a link to your site.
