Are Directories Losing Popularity?

First off, Directories are mainly used to create backlinks for websites aiming for high rankings on Google, maybe a high Page Rank too. Directories aren’t normally used to create traffic because its mainly only Google and other Search Engines who look through the directory.
Directories have been used for a long time because they are a simple way of getting backlinks. However, with Google trying to reduce the Page Rank of any directories it can find, is it worth submitting to directories?
Recently, a lot of Webmasters owning Directories have seen their directories go straight down to Page Rank 0. This could be because of the number of outgoing links in a directory, it could also be if there is featured links in the directory because as well all know, Google doesn’t like paid links.
When directories go down to Page Rank 0, it means less people want to submit to their directory because the link isn’t as valuable, that is why people could charge quite a lot of money in a Page Rank 7 directory but not in a Page Rank 0 directory. When a Webmaster goes down to Page Rank 0, they know they will make very little money from it.
In my opinion, I think directories are losing popularity when it comes to featured links, because people have worked out that their link could soon be worthless after a few months and it would be a waste of money. They have also worked out that even if there is a Page Rank 7 directory, the page their link will be on will probably be Page Rank 0 anyway.
I think that directories are getting more popular when it comes to free links because everyone is looking for any type of backlinks, and directories are the quickest way.
It means that directory owners are having to find different ways of making income from their directory. This could be using a Pay-Per-Click Program such as Google AdSense, or making even a more unique method of making money.

Using proper anchor text for link building is very vital for gaining rank in search engines. Anchor text is nothing but the search phrase people use to search anything on web. If you start typing any search phrase in Google then Google starts to show you some suggestions for keywords which also can be helpful. Alternatively you can use freekeywords.wordtracker.com to find good keywords which will actually bring in visitors if you manage to get top ranks. Just type Boston travel and then submit to see how many hits a site gets which is at #1 in Google for the keyword.

While I was still under employment with the dotbombs that forms a huge part of my career today, I was told that it was MY RESPONSIBILITY to understand and remember all the characteristics of ALL the search engines there were in cyberspace. I remember feeling like someone was holding a machete to my neck. Horrid, simply horrid.
But a punch was delivered and I rolled with it. During that time, some search engine marketing experts contended that placing links in all sorts of websites, including link farms, was an essential part to the game plan. Without which, you would NEVER get good rankings in ANY of the search engines.
So, there I was, two months after delivering my child, worrying about the sniffles my baby has developed and wondering if the search engines have changed their algorithm while I was worrying about my child’s sniffles. So, in I went to place all those links, one by achingly bothersome one, in all those websites. This was before people came up with programs that automated the process, so….yeah. Read more

Search engine is the largest traffic source for most websites. If you have created a new website, it is impossible for your website to obtain high search engine rankings. The reason is because you need to apply search engine optimization to your site so that it can rank high on search engines for selected keywords that you have targeted.
I know that it is always exciting for you to optimize your new site to achieve high search engine rankings as fast as possible. By ranking well on organic listings, you can enjoy lots of free and targeted search engine traffic to your site. You may be tempted to build back links aggressively in the hope of achieving good organic rankings quickly. However, this is not the right way to do it.
Search engine optimization requires you to build back links naturally and steadily. Link building is not a one-time project; it is an on-going process that you need to make it operational if you want to taste success with search engine optimization. And also, you should not build a large number of back links too quickly as this will seem unnatural to search engines and you will not achieve any favorable result by doing so. Read more
